Types of Telfa Bandages
Telfa is wound care under the Kendall brand, which is now a division of Covidien. Telfa has long been used in rehabilitation centers, hospitals, care facilities and homes worldwide. Telfa is known for its non-stick properties, which make bandage changes less painful and helps wound healing. Since some wound care demands that bandages be changed frequently, this is good for both the care provider and the patient. Telfa has a diverse product line and covers a wide variety of bandage situations.-
Telfa AMD Products
-
Telfa AMD (antimicrobial non-adherent dressing) are sponge bandages that are saturated with PHMB (polyhexanethylene biguanide). PHMB is an antiseptic that is broadly effective on gram positive and gram negative organisms, including MRSA. The AMD bandages are comprised of an absorbent core surrounded by a film of perforated mylar, which makes it a good choice for dressing wounds that are draining lightly. All of these properties combined with its relative low cost has made this product popular with medical facilities.
Telfa Island Dressings
-
Telfa Island dressings come in a wide variety of sizes and have many uses. These bandages are soft and seal on all four sides. The backing is non-woven, which helps keep wounds completely covered and shielded from harmful bacteria. They are good for wounds that do not drain much. The Telfa Island Plus, however, is super absorbent. It also has a non-woven backing and seals on all sides. It is available in multiple sizes and is a ideal for chronic and surgical wounds.
Telfa Ouchless
-
Telfa Ouchless is available in both adherent and non-adherent forms. The non-adherent form does not stick to wounds or skin and can be used with tape or gauze to keep it in place. It is not very absorbent and so should only be used on dry or lightly draining wounds. The big advantage is that it does not stick to healing wounds, which is one reason why it is ideal as a take home bandage. For wet wounds, the adhesive Telfa Ouchless is available. This bandage is highly absorbent and is made of cotton fabric encapsulated in perforated non-stick film. It also does not stick to wounds, which allows for better healing.
Telfa Clear
-
Telfa Clear was designed as a dressing for wounds that need protection without being absorbent. These bandages are often used on burn patients and are helpful in protecting skin grafts and donor sites. They are also used to cover surgical incisions and chronic wounds. Another advantage of this dressing is that it can be used with a wide variety of ointments.
