How do I Redress an Arm With Kerlix Ace Bandage?
Kerlix is not an Ace bandage. Ace is the trade name for a woven elastic bandage, which is different from a gauze bandage. Ace bandages may be used , however, to secure Kerlix bandages in place.
Things You'll Need
- Antibiotic ointment
- Sterile, nonstick pad
- Gauze pad
- Kerlix gauge bandage roll (available in 2.25-inch through 4.5-inch widths)
- Medical adhesive tape or an elastic wrap (such as an Ace bandage)
Instructions
-
-
1
Apply antibiotic ointment if you have a wound that is still open. Antibiotic ointment helps to prevent infection and promotes healing.
-
2
Place a nonstick pad on top of the wound.
-
3
Apply a gauge pad directly on top of the nonstick pad.
-
4
Bind the wound by wrapping the Kerlix gauze around your arm as many times as needed to cover the dressing you already have in place. Wrap it firmly but not tightly. Wrapping it too tightly may interfere with blood circulation in your arm.
-
5
Apply enough tape around the Kerlix gauze wrap to keep it in place, or apply an elastic wrap---such as an Ace bandage---to keep the dressing in place.
