How to Keep Moisture Away From a Wound on the Foot
One of the first things your doctor will tell you about day-to-day wound care is to keep excess moisture away from the wound so that it can heal properly. If the wound is on your foot, keeping it dry may be more challenging because you will have to find a way to keep the foot wound dry while also keeping your balance when you shower. Even if your foot wound is not severe enough to require stitches or bandages, it will need protection from excess moisture.Things You'll Need
- small plastic trash bag (4-gallon size, if possible)
- packing tape
- scissors
Instructions

1
Cut a plastic trash bag so that it's long enough to cover your ankle, or calf, without too much excess.
-
2
Put your foot into the plastic trash bag. Working in one direction, wrap the bag around your ankle until you have a tight seal.
-
3
Wrap the tape around your ankle. Cut the tape.
-
4
Twist the plastic bag above the taped section until you reach the top. Wrap the tape around the top of the bag until it creates a seal. Cut the tape.
-
5
Shower, while keeping your wrapped leg away from direct contact with the water from the showerhead. Use the scissors, if needed, to remove the bag.
