How to Put on a Deroyal Knee Brace

Deroyal knee braces are different from other brace supports in that they also contain a hinge which helps to take pressure off the knee joint. Although they are most often prescribed by physicians to aid in the healing of torn knee ligaments, they also can be worn simply for support. Putting on the Deroyal knee brace can seem complicated due to the number of Velcro straps and plastic gear attached to it. But once you get the hang of it, the brace is simple to put on.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in a location that allows for plenty of leg room and that allows you to bend easily.

    • 2

Extend the leg that you are putting the brace on until it is straight in front of you.

    • 3

Place the Deroyal knee brace around the knee by either pulling it up over the bottom of the leg, or by wrapping the brace around the leg. There is a pull-up version, as well as a wrap version of the knee brace.

    • 4

Shift the knee brace until the hinge is located directly on either side of the kneecap. In addition, the knee hole in the front of the brace should be perfectly centered over the kneecap area.

    • 5

Start at the lower section of the brace below the kneecap and grasp the Velcro strap located on the inside of the leg. Wrap the strap around the leg and press it down firmly on the exterior of the leg, thus securing it to the brace.

    • 6

Attach the remaining straps above the knee and also at the upper thigh area.

    • 7

Stand up and walk a few steps to see if the knee brace feels tight. The brace should not move or shift while you are walking. If shifting occurs, unfasten the Velcro straps and then refasten them.
