How to Use Micropore Tape
Micropore tape is a latex-free, paper tape manufactured by the 3M Company. This type of tape is indicated for use on people with thin, fragile skin as well as to secure small to medium dressings, lightweight tubing and ostomy pouches. Micropore tape is also recommended for people after surgical procedures, such as plastic surgery, to decrease scar formation. This tape is breathable which allows moisture to evaporate from the skin. Micropore tape is available in tan or white and in ½- to 3-inch widths.Things You'll Need

1
Wash your hands with soap and water. Dry them well.
-
2
Clean the wound as directed by your physician and cover it with the appropriate wound dressing.

3
Tear or cut a length of Micropore tape from the roll that is 1 to 2 inches longer than the dressing. Place a strip of the tape around each edge of the dressing. If you are applying the Micropore tape to decrease scarring after a surgical wound, you can initially apply the tape directly over the incision after you are cleared by your surgeon; this may be two weeks after your procedure.

4
Press the tape firmly to the skin for 2 to 3 seconds.
-
5
Replace the tape and dressing at each dressing change. Use more strips of tape to reinforce the dressing if needed between dressing changes. If you are applying the Micropore tape to decrease scarring after a surgical wound, change the tape every 24 hours after showering and thoroughly drying the incision.
