Causes of Foot Pain in the Morning

If you have ever stepped out of bed in the morning and almost fallen down from the immediate and excruciating pain stabbing up from the soles of your feet, you may have Plantar Fasciitis. Some people experience this pain anytime of the day, only being pain-free when there is no pressure on the plantar fasciia that attaches the ball of the foot to the heel.
  1. Lack of Arch Support

    • Wearing flip flops or other shoes that lack proper arch support can be a leading cause of morning foot pain.

    A Standing Job

    • Foot pain on rising has been linked to standing for long periods of time in one place and on a hard surface. Such jobs as being a cashier in a grocery store or other retail setting can lead to Plantar Fasciitis.

    Sudden Weight Gain

    • A sudden weight gain, especially if accompanied by a sedentary lifestyle, can cause the calf muscles to tighten up. This tightening leads to an over-stretching of the tendon that attaches the ball of the foot to the heel and supports the arch of the foot.

    Running

    • A sudden increase in running or walking can cause inflammation in the arch of the foot. This may be most noticeable when you first get out of bed in the morning.

    Hypothyroidism

    • Some empirical evidence, supported by actual testimonies, suggests a link between untreated hypothyroidism and Plantar Fasciitis. The cause of the link is not yet known, but as the hypothyroidism is treated and correct hormone balance is restored, the symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis disappear.
