The first step in curing shoulder pain is to let the shoulder rest. If the joint feels hot or burning, there is still a large amount of irritation and you should use alternating hot/cold press treatments coupled with rest until the heat/burning/pain is gone.

    • 2

Your shoulder might still ache or be creaky or pop when you move it, but shouldn't feel feverish or throbbing or burning, and the majority of the stabbing pain SHOULD go away with rest.

    • 3

At this point you have to build your shoulders up again. You should get a set of variable dumbell weights... you are going to be doing LATERAL DUMBELL RAISES with as much weight as you can do and still get at least 15 repetitions completed. You will need to do 4 to 6 sets, at least 15 repetitions per set (but no more than 25 repetitions), then rest the next day.

    • 4

When you find yourself doing more than 20 repetitions with the weight, you need to increase the weight again until you can do around 15 and the shoulder muscles feel worked out. Keep repeating this cycle, building up the weights each time you can do more than 20-25 repetitions per set. You will find that in time the muscles and tendons have regained their strength and the pain has vanished.

Consider also implementing a regimen of push-ups as well as rowing exercises to fully work the muscles of the torso and shoulders, as this will prevent any sort of joint problems due to imbalances in musculature.

    • 6

If you decide to implement the other exercises, start slowly and get your shoulders used to the motion. Start with push-ups on your knees if needed, doing as many reps as you can WITH PROPER FORM... do not bounce or go fast as this will irritate the shoulders again. Slowly and carefully. 4 to 5 sets every other day.
