1
Find a doctor or physical therapist who can create a rehabilitation plan specific to your unique injury. A complete physical exam should be conducted to determine the extent of your injury and the proper exercises should be prescribed.

2
Rehabilitate based on the extent of ligament damage. A minor tear usually requires a special knee brace to provide stability. An MCL knee injury requires rest and using ice and compresses to limit swelling while the knee is elevated. A drastic MCL tear usually requires surgery and extensive exercise over a long period.

Exercise to rehabilitate an MCL injury. Incorporate a stationary bike in your rehabilitation routine to increase range of motion. Begin on the bike for 20 minutes per day at minimal range of motion. Gradually increase the range by lowering the bike seat. Strength-building exercises should also be used to focus on strengthening the quadriceps, the muscles that support the knee. Perform leg extension exercises to increase strength and flexibility. Extend the leg and hold it in position for a few seconds. Slowly lower the leg to work the quadriceps.
