1
Keep stitches properly cleaned and cared for while they are still in. Use water to clean the wound approximately 24 hours after the stitches are placed. Pat dry with a clean cloth. Apply an antibiotic cream and bandage.
-
2
Apply vitamin E after the stitches have been removed and the wound is completely healed. Vitamin E has long been used to minimize scarring. Before applying this topical vitamin, make sure that the skin edges are completely closed together.
-
3
Avoid unnecessary sun exposure. The sun can discolor the healing skin and make a scar more noticeable. Use sunscreen to protect the injury site.

4
Schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. If you are unhappy with the remaining scar, consult a doctor who can provide you with alternative methods for scar removal, such as a prescription cream or laser treatment.
