After surgery does cell growth increase or decrease as wound heal?

As a wound heals after surgery, cell growth initially increases in order to repair the damaged tissue. In the inflammatory phase of wound healing there is cell death or damage which initiates an inflammatory response leading to increase cell division by proliferation of fibroblast that are recruited, which synthesise collagens and glycosaminoglycans.

During proliferative phase of healing fibroblasts synthesize collagens III and I along with other matrix proteins that make up new granulation tissue and eventually become scar tissue over time in a continuous remodelling process
