How do you secure an impaled object in place at the entrance of wound?

If an object is impaled in a person, do not attempt to remove it. Stabilization is the action of keeping the object secured in place until professional help arrives.

- Try to control bleeding around the object (not from it).

- Apply a sterile dressing or clean cloth around the object to minimize movement.

- If object is protruding from both sides, add bulky dressings on each side.

- Secure dressing with roller bandage or tape.

- Elevate the injured area if possible to reduce swelling.
