How to Tape a Cut on a Finger
Having a cut on a finger can be a painful and annoying injury. Some cuts, depending on where it is located on the finger, can cause you to avoid using that hand or those fingers, making work or other extracurricular activities more difficult. Taping a cut can ease the pain and throbbing that is sometimes associated with the injury, and it may prevent further injury while being active.Things You'll Need
- Wound Cleaner
- Gauze
- Neosporin
- Self-Sticking tape
Instructions

1
Clean the cut with a saline wound wash to remove dirt or debris that may be in or around cut. Soak up the saline and any blood with sterile gauze pads.
-
2
Apply Neosporin to the cut. This will help prevent bacteria from building up and will also assist in the healing process with minimal scarring.
-
3
Use another gauze pad and fold it in half to create a thicker barrier on top of the cut. Depending on the length of the cut, you may need to have more than one pad applied to the finger.
-
4
Place the self-sticking tape above the finger at the site of the gauze, and unroll it around the finger. Only apply enough to keep a firm hold on the finger and the gauze but not too tight. Be sure not to cut off blood circulation. If the finger begins to tingle or turn blue, the gauze is too tight.
-
5
Wiggle your fingers to ensure that there is enough flexibility to be able to continue with daily activities as necessary.
-
6
Reapply the tape daily or as needed if the tape becomes loose or dirty.
