How do you loosen or pull a baby tooth?
To safely loosen or pull a loose baby tooth, follow these steps:
1. Assess the Tooth: Check if the tooth is wiggly and ready to come out. If it's firmly rooted, wait a bit before attempting removal.
2. Wiggle the Tooth: Encourage your child to gently wiggle the loose tooth with their tongue or finger. This can help loosen it naturally.
3. Tie Dental Floss: If needed, you can try tying a piece of dental floss around the tooth. Gently wrap the floss around the tooth (not too tightly), leaving small tails on both ends.
4. Pull Gently: While your child holds one tail, you hold the other. Pull the tooth gently in the direction it naturally wants to come out. Do not force it.
5. Offer Comfort: Talk to your child and reassure them throughout the process. Praising their bravery helps alleviate any fear.
6. Apply Pressure: If the tooth doesn't come out with gentle force, you can apply gentle pressure. Press and release around the tooth's base with your finger.
7. Break the Seal: If the tooth is still firmly in place, you may need to gently twist it clockwise and anticlockwise. Try to break the tissue bond.
8. Check the Root: If the tooth comes out, examine the root to make sure no fragments are left behind.
9. Bleeding and Swelling: Some minor bleeding or swelling after tooth removal is normal. You can use a cold compress to reduce any discomfort.
10. Call a Dentist: If the tooth is not wiggly, firmly rooted, or causes significant pain or bleeding, consult your child's dentist. Forcing a tooth out can damage their gums.
