Why do stillborn babies have dark red lips?

This is a common misconception. Stillborn babies do not have dark red lips. While it is true that the lips of a stillborn baby may be slightly discoloured, this does not mean that they are dark red. In fact, the lips of a stillborn baby are usually pale or bluish in colour.
