Braces are used to help both kids and adults straighten their teeth for the perfect smile. Braces are common in children and young teenagers, though adults may choose to wear them later in life. 1
Take pain medication, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, before going to the dentist. This way the medicine will be in your system once you leave the dentist and you won't have to wait for the pain medication to kick in.
-
2
Take pain medication at home if your teeth are hurting. Contact your dentist if the pain comes back frequently or doesn't go away.
-
3
Ask your dentist for some wax to cover wires that may rub against your gums and make them sore. Apply a small piece of wax over the wire or bracket that is bothering you.
-
4
Avoid hard, crunchy foods such as carrots. Cut hard foods into smaller pieces. These foods can cause wires to pop out of place and poke you.
