Do I Have a Stye?

Styes are common eye infections that appear as small, red, and swollen bumps on the eyelid. Here's how you can tell if you have a stye:

1. Painful Bump on the Eyelid:

- Styes typically manifest as small, tender, and painful bumps on the edge of the eyelid.

2. Redness and Swelling:

- The skin surrounding the bump may appear red and swollen, indicating inflammation.

3. Crusty or Yellow Discharge:

- Styes often have a yellow or crusty discharge, similar to a pimple.

4. Discomfort and Watering:

- You might experience discomfort, irritation, and excessive tearing in the affected eye.

5. Sensitivity to Light:

- Styes can cause increased sensitivity to bright light, making it uncomfortable to look directly at light sources.

6. Vision Changes:

- Styes usually don't affect vision, but in some cases, they can cause blurred vision if the bump is large enough to block part of the pupil.

7. Recurring Nature:

- Styes tend to recur in some individuals, particularly if they have underlying conditions like blepharitis or poor eyelid hygiene.

If you're experiencing these symptoms, it's important to visit an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) or optometrist for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Self-treating styes at home without medical guidance is not recommended, as improper care could lead to complications or potential damage to your vision.
