When a word has more than one definitions?

When a word has more than one definition it is called polysemy. Polysemy is the phenomenon in which a single word can have multiple unrelated meanings. For example, the word "bank" can refer to a financial institution, the side of a river, or a seat. The word "apple" can refer to a fruit, a company, or the pupil of an eye.
