Do you need braces for overbites?
When an orthodontist assesses an overbite, they might suggest braces as the best treatment option. Braces work by gradually applying gentle pressure to the teeth, moving them into the desired positions. The orthodontist will attach brackets to the teeth and connect them with wires and rubber bands. Over time, the forces applied by the braces will shift the teeth and jaws until the overbite is corrected.
In some cases, an overbite may be severe enough that it requires a combination of treatments, such as braces in conjunction with jaw surgery. For less severe cases, braces alone may be sufficient.
It's important to consult an orthodontist if you have concerns about an overbite. They will assess your individual situation, determine the severity of the overbite, and recommend the most suitable treatment plan, which may or may not include braces.
