Types of Orthodonic Braces

Some individuals do not have the smile they would like. Fortunately, technology has come far enough to offer options to straighten teeth. Even the least expensive braces are quite costly and not all types are available to every patient. The types available will depend on how severe your condition is.
  1. Metal

    • Metal braces are the least expensive even at $,. Stainless steel is the metal used for this type. They require constant alignment and are used for more severe conditions. The disadvantage of wearing metal braces in they can stain teeth. Individuals choosing these can choose colored braces and change the color at every visit. Even gold-plated steel is available for metal braces.

    Ceramic

    • The biggest reason for individuals choosing ceramic braces is because they are less visible and more natural looking. They are able to be match to the natural color of the patients own teeth. Ceramic braces do not stain or discolor and they are just as strong as metal braces. However, they are more expensive than metal braces and take longer for teeth to achieve the patient's desired result.

    Clear

    • Another method for making braces invisible is to wear clear braces. Other than the thin wire that runs across the brackets, the clear braces made of pure monocrystalline sapphire is virtually unseen.

    Lingual

    • This is the only real way to make sure braces are not seen. They are set behind the teeth and each bracket is custom made to fit the patient's teeth. Unfortunately, it is hard to speak at first and a patient may receive several cuts and sores during treatment until they become used to the braces. Dental wax can be used to lessen the chances of cuts on the tongue.

    Invisilign

    • For individuals with only slight problems, this is the best option. They are made of plastic, fit over the teeth and must be changed out every two weeks. Orthodontists must be specially trained by Align Technologies to apply them.

    Damon Braces

    • These are one of the most recent in orthodontic technology. Damon braces are made of surgical stainless steel and clear resin. The technology happens in how wires are able to be released from the brackets by simply pushing firmly on the slide-release button on the bracket. Other than that, they working quite the same as metal braces.
