What is the process of braces?

Getting braces involves several steps and regular appointments with your orthodontist.

1. Consultation: Your orthodontist will assess your teeth, jaw, and bite to determine if braces are the best treatment option for you. They will discuss your treatment plan, including the estimated treatment duration and cost.

2. Records and X-rays: Your orthodontist will take x-rays, photographs, and impressions of your teeth to create a detailed treatment plan.

3. Placement of braces: During your first appointment, your orthodontist will bond brackets to the front of each of your teeth using a special adhesive. A thin, flexible wire is then threaded through the brackets and secured in place.

4. Adjustments: Every 4-8 weeks, you will visit your orthodontist to have your braces adjusted. During these appointments, the wire may be tightened or replaced, and additional bands or elastics may be added to fine-tune the alignment of your teeth.

5. Monitoring progress: Throughout your treatment, your orthodontist will monitor the progress of your teeth movement and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

6. Retention: Once your teeth have reached the desired alignment, you will need to wear retainers to hold them in place. Retainers may be removable or fixed and must be worn as directed by your orthodontist to maintain the results of your treatment.

Remember, the specific steps and duration of your braces treatment may vary depending on your individual case. It's important to follow your orthodontist's instructions and attend regular appointments to ensure a successful outcome.
