How is a tooth pulled down into place when wearing braces?

A tooth cannot really be pulled down into place when wearing braces. Most times, teeth are pulled up or shifted sideways using braces. However, if the tooth in question had erupted more than necessary, it may erupt back to a normal level by natural movements.
