What is an asbestos square?

Asbestos Square was a neighbourhood of Montreal during the 19th and early 20th centuries. An asbestos fireproof factory was built in 1879, giving name to the area. Due to the toxic effects of asbestos, the factory became non-operational in 1974. The demolition took place in the late 1980's.
