How to Prepare for the First Trip to a Dentist
While you may be nervous and slightly scared before your first trip to the dentist, there's nothing to worry about. The first trip consists of only a routine cleaning and dental X-rays, both of which normally cause little or no pain. Aside from calming your nerves, you'll also need to prepare yourself in other ways, from making sure your teeth are clean to having the necessary documents so you can fill out the paperwork.Instructions

1
Brush your teeth. The dentist or dental assistant will be looking directly in your mouth for 20 minutes to more than one hour, so make sure your teeth are clean and your breath smells fresh.
-
2
Dress comfortably. Avoid wearing tight jeans and restrictive shirts. The dentist will sit you in a chair and lean the chair back, and you'll have to remain in that position for the duration of the procedure.

3
Bring your medical insurance documents, Social Security card and driver's license. You'll also need to provide the dentist's office with a list of your allergies and dates of past surgeries. If you're unsure of the dates of your surgeries, call your doctor's office.

4
Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early. You'll have to fill out paperwork when you arrive.

5
Ask your dentist any pressing questions you have. If your gums are bleeding, don't be afraid to ask the dentist about the cause. If you're unsure whether your toothbrush is sufficient, go ahead and ask.
