How to Replace Dental Caps

A dental cap is a form of dentistry repair that covers a damaged tooth to re-create the original shape. The cap protects your entire tooth and the nerves inside from the harm that could come to them while using your teeth. If your dental cap ever comes loose and falls out, there is an easy way that you can replace it temporarily using an emergency dental kit. The repair will give you enough time to get to your dentist for a full repair without hurting your tooth in the meantime.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your teeth thoroughly with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Make sure you get all around and inside the tooth where the cap came out.

    • 2

Clean out the inside of the cap with warm water to remove any dirt or food in there. Use a clean cotton swab to make sure the inside of the cap is completely dry.

    • 3

Dip the applicator from the kit into the repair compound and pull out a small amount. Press the compound into the cap and smooth the compound flat.

    • 4

Place the filled cap on top of the tooth it came from and make sure it is positioned properly. Bite down slightly to set the compound into the tooth and to push the cap into place.

    • 5

Clean the tooth and the area around the cap with a dry, clean toothbrush. Brush away the excess compound that was forced out when you bit down on the cap.

    • 6

Let the compound dry for one hour before eating or drinking anything. This will allow the cap to set and bond with the compound.
