How to Replace Temporary Denture Liners

Denture liners are used to reapply dentures if they have come loose from your gums or if the denture adhesive has worn off. When denture adhesive wears off, the inside of the dentures can cause pain to your gums. Denture liners will help your gums heal and will temporarily keep your dentures attached until you can get to the dentist's office.

Things You'll Need

• Denture adhesive
• Saucepan
• Water
• Stove
• Denture liner
• Towel
• Tweezers or scissors

  Remove the dentures from your mouth. Use your fingers to gently pull the dentures off your gums.

  Take out the old denture liner from the inside of the dentures. Use your fingers to pry the liner from the dentures. Remove any leftover adhesive on the inside of the dentures with tweezers or scissors. Rinse the dentures with water and dry them with a towel. The dentures must be completely dry for the adhesive to bond to the liner.

  Place the new denture liner inside the dentures. Put the dentures in your mouth and gently bite down on the dentures for two minutes. This will prepare the liner to match your gum line. Remove the dentures from your mouth.

  Fill a saucepan with water, and place it on the stove. Heat the water to 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Put the dentures into the saucepan for 30 minutes. Remove the dentures from the water, and allow them to cool completely.

  Apply a denture adhesive to the liner. Allow the adhesive to dry for 20 minutes. Place the dentures in your mouth.
