How to Reseat a Crown Tooth

A crown is a new covering for a tooth that has been damaged. It is usually composed of porcelain and might cover a ceramic coping or an internal metal that gives extra strength to the restoration. Sometimes the crown will loosen and fall out, requiring it to be reset.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any loose debris that may have settled around the tooth. Check the inside of your crown for any food particles or dental cement fragments. You should be able to easily brush away loose objects, using a toothbrush, toothpick or cotton swab. All foreign objects must be removed or your crown will not set properly.

    • 2

Slip the crown gently back onto your tooth. Close your teeth together, but do not apply any pressure, to make certain the crown is fitting properly. The crown should cause no interference with your bite.

    • 3

Remove the loose crown from your tooth. Fill your crown with denture adhesive paste. Now place the crown over your tooth. Check your bite again, applying no pressure, to ensure that the crown is in its proper place.

Contact your dentist's office as soon as possible. Make an appointment for your situation to be evaluated and your crown to be re-cemented permanently.
