Supplies to Make Dentures

Denture Base
-
The denture base that the teeth are attach to is made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin, commonly known as acrylic resin. Modern acrylic resin dentures also have rubber reinforcement to improve working function of the denture. Denture bases may also be made of porcelain and composite resins. This base material lasts anywhere from five to eight years.
Mounting
-
Denture plate mountings are made from metal and are seated in a plastic mount. Mountings are made to fit denture plates in the mouth around the gums and palate. The mount is framed in metal made from metal alloys, including nobelium or chromium. These mounts can be adjusted or easily replaced throughout the years of wear and tear. Plastic mountings are lightweight and, unlike the past mountings made from acrylic materials, these mountings do not leave a metallic taste in the mouth.
Adhesive Material
-
Adhesive is considered part of the denture materials because it gives added security for helping plates stay in place in the mouth. Adhesive to affix dentures may come in powder, cream or paste form. Any type of denture adhesive should be applied in a thin layer to help prevent gunk and buildup. General advice is to keep regular alignment appointments with the dentist to avoid improper application of adhesive material.
