Dental Implant Instruments
Implant dentistry tools are used in the surgical practice of dentistry. An implant is placed into a person's mouth where a permanent tooth or teeth should have been but have been lost. Implants are a permanent fix for the missing tooth and are made to match the look and feel of the patient's real teeth. Many patients who have had implants feel less self conscious because of the permanent nature of the implant; unlike dentures or bridges, they can't fall out.-
Chisels
-
As implants are set into the patient's bone, the space is prepared in a way that no pressure points are created between the implant and the bone. Chisels are used by dentists during the implantation process to incise the ridges of the tooth. Chisels can be are created with a straight or curved pattern to meet the need of the dentist and patient. The end of the chisel is very sharp to allow the dentist to complete fine, detailed work in preparation of the implant placement.
Bone Grafters
-
During the process of fitting a new implant, it is often necessary to graft bone from the maxillary. Bone grafters, a series of tools, include bone compactors, grinders and bone curettes. These tools are used by the dentist to harvest or compact bone during the implantation process. A bone basin is used to prevent the dentist from spilling harvested bone during the procedure.
Osteotomes
-
Osteotomes are used to prep the socket area in the maxillary. During this work the dentist must rely on the measurements of the oseotomes to know how far the tool is in the socket. Some osteotomes also have automatic stop to prevent the dentist from going to deep into the patient's socket. Drilling too far into the socket could impact the success of the implantation.
Sinus Lifts
-
During implantation the sinus membranes must be lifted. A sinus lift instrument keeps the sinus membranes out of the way of the implant surgery. Sinus lift tools are generally lightweight to prevent the dentist from developing fatigue in the hand or the wrist. Most sinus lift units have a different lift settings to allow the dentist to decide the amount of lift that is needed.
