How to Whiten Invisalign Bumpers

Invisalign is a revolutionary way to straighten teeth that doesn't require braces. It works with a series of different clear "retainers" that are worn over your teeth. Every two weeks, you change into a new (and straighter) retainer. Your last retainer will be completely straight, giving your teeth the look you have always wanted. To encourage quicker change and to keep the retainer fitting better, some Invisalign patients need bumpers placed on their teeth. These are tiny little bumps adhered to four of the teeth that line up with the bumps on the Invisalign. When you place the retainer onto your teeth, they snap over the bumpers. Although they are made the color of your teeth, excessive coffee, pop and juice drinking can dye them. Luckily, there are two ways to change that.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a tooth whitening kit with whitening strips, not trays. These can be found in any drug store in the toothpaste aisle.

    • 2

Floss and brush your teeth before whitening.

    • 3

Remove the protective backings from a whitening strip and take out your Invisalign. Place the whitening strip over your entire row of bottom teeth. Press down firmly to adhere the strip to your teeth and to the bumpers. Press down on the strip on either side of the bumpers to ensure that the strip is covering them. Repeat on your top row of teeth.

    • 4

Keep the whitening strips on for the specified amount of time in the instructions, then peel the strip(s) off and brush your teeth thoroughly.
