How to Coat Dentures

If your dentures move around in your mouth or occasionally fall off your gums when you laugh or cough, they may need to be coated with a denture reliner to fit snugly again. This procedure is called denture relining and is usually performed by a dentist. You can coat the dentures yourself by obtaining the acrylic denture reline from your dentist, a dental supply laboratory, or an online dental supply retailer and following the denture relining instructions included with the kit.

• Denture reline kit
• Warm water
• 80-grit sandpaper (optional)
• Metal fingernail file (optional)

  Mix the powder included with the denture reline kit with warm water per the instructions included with the kit. The consistency should look like pudding, not overly thick or overly thin.

  Pour the reline mix into your dentures. Cover the entire inside surface of the dentures. Spread the reline mix with your fingers.

  Wipe away any excess reline material from the edges of the dentures with your fingers.

  Set the dentures aside and allow the reline material to harden, usually 24 hours. Check the instructions included with your reline kit to determine the exact set time for your kit.

  Put the dentures in your mouth. They should fit snugly.
