1
Rest and sleep for 5 to 6 hours after the surgery. You will be hungry from fasting before the operation, but eating food could upset your stomach. Remember to drink plenty of fluids so you do not become dehydrated.
-
2
Purchase soft foods before getting your surgery. The best things to eat are soups, puddings, mashed potatoes and anything else soft without chunks or small pieces. For the first two days, you can only consume these types of foods.
-
3
Keep soups and coffees at a luke-warm temperature. Anything too hot could damage the forming blood clots that help protect and heal the areas where teeth were removed.
-
4
Drink beverages without any carbonation or acids. Drinks that qualify include water, milk, coffee and sports drinks. Drinks you should avoid are soda and juices with acids.
-
5
Expand your food choices on the second and third days. Every patient is different, but by the second day, you can expand to macaroni and cheese and other soft foods like pizza without crust.
-
6
Go to a follow-up appointment to consult your dentist, see the progress of your healing and find out when you can eat other foods.
-
7
Rinse out your mouth softly with warm water to release any crumbs or caught up food that may be stuck in your teeth. Just let the water fall out of your mouth as you rinse as spitting can disturb the blood clots.
