Most of the time your traditional dentist can perform this procedure without sending you to a specialist. During your consultation you should feel free to ask any questions or express concerns as your dentist goes over the exact procedure and cost with you.

  The first of two appointments for bridges will be slightly painful. The dentist or their assistant will provide you with some type of anesthetic to numb your mouth. This is necessary since during the procedure the dentist will be preparing the teeth around the space for the bridge. He or she will then take an impression or mold of the area. This will get sent to a lab, which will construct a permanent bridge. In the meantime the dentist will install a temporary bridge to fill the space.

  On the second appointment the dentist will remove your temporary bridge. He or she will then take the permanent bridge received from the lab and place it in your mouth. Before cementing it in place, he or she will take the time to make sure it fits correctly and your bite is accurate and natural. If everything is right, the dentist will then cement it in place.

  Finally it is up to you to properly care for your bridge after it has been installed. Brushing and flossing on a regular basis is important since this will prevent tooth decay and staining from occurring on the bridge and the teeth around it.
