What is a dental extraction site?

A dental extraction site refers to the area in the mouth where a tooth has been removed through a surgical procedure known as tooth extraction. Tooth extraction is performed when a tooth is severely damaged, infected, or cannot be saved through other dental treatments.

After a tooth is extracted, the extraction site goes through a healing process. The site is initially filled with a blood clot to prevent excessive bleeding. Over the next few days, a new tissue begins to form, and the blood clot gradually organizes and hardens. This process, known as wound organization and granulation tissue formation, ultimately leads to the formation of new bone tissue and the closure of the extraction site.
