A dentist is a healthcare professional qualified by a dental degree and registered with a dental association, who prevents, diagnoses, and treats diseases of the teeth, gums and related tissues in the oral cavity. Dentists also provide preventive care, including teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, and sealants, as well as a range of restorative treatments such as fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures and root canal treatment. In some countries, dentists may also perform oral surgery and place dental implants.
