Methods of Denture Mounting

There are five different types of dentures that fit most everyone's needs. You can request one of the different methods instead of what your dentist normally offers. The important thing is to educate yourself on the different types so you know which one will be best for your needs.
  1. Full Dentures

    • Full dentures are the most common denture. They are made of acrylic that suctions to your gums and roof of your mouth. It usually takes about four visits to get the precise fit, but your dentist will work with you however long it takes to get the proper fit.

    Partial Dentures

    • Partial dentures are another common denture. They are made mostly the same way, but are attached to natural teeth with clips and cover a much smaller area. The fittings take less time and the requirement for the precision of fit is less demanding.

    Cu-Sil Dentures

    • The Cu-Sil denture is a variation of the full denture. The Cu-Sil have holes in it where the few natural teeth that are left can fit through. This type of denture offers a little more stability because the natural teeth help to secure the denture in place. The Cu-Sil denture can be very comfortable to wear once the fittings are done.

    Immediate Dentures

    • Immediate dentures are placed over the gums as soon as the natural teeth are removed. You can walk out of the dentist office with your dentures in place the same day so there will be less of an awkward feeling when you go out in public. After the holes where your natural teeth start healing and the swelling goes down, you will have to revisit your dentist to get adjustments made to your dentures.

    Implant Supported Dentures

    • Implant supported dentures use titanium screws to anchor themselves to your jaws. These are great for more support and jaw shrinkage is not a problem with these dentures. They also don't rub the jaw and leave no sore spots.
