Types of Partial Dentures

People who wear dentures do so to cover areas of the mouth where teeth are missing. Unlike full dentures that cover the entire mouth, different types of partial dentures are used when teeth are missing in a centralized area of the mouth or as replacements for one or two missing teeth. Some types of partial dentures serve as permanent solutions for dental problems, other types, however, are used as temporary solutions leading up to major dental procedures.
  1. Conventional Partial Dentures

    • Conventional partial dentures have metal frameworks and clasps that are attached to certain teeth for support. The metal clasps may be visible over the supporting teeth.

    Hidden Partial Dentures

    • Hidden partial dentures design their clasps to be less visible by using a little metal as possible. The attachments are buried in the dentures and lock into the crowns for stability and support. Most people cannot detect the partial denture.

    Flexite Partial Dentures

    • Flexite Partial Dentures are made with pink, white or clear acrylic clasps. The colors of these clasps make them practically invisible, because they blend into the gums and teeth.

    Crowns

    • Crowns are partial dentures that fit where individual teeth are missing. Because crowns are placed in singular areas of the mouth, people do not require clasps and attain natural appearances when they smile.

    Flipper Dentures

    • Flipper dentures are the types of partial dentures used as temporary replacements in lieu of other dental procedures like bridges and implants. These dentures are constructed with acrylic and placed over an area as soon as a tooth has been extracted.
