Contacting your regular dentist is the first step in getting lumineers. Your dentist may be able to provide the procedure for you in his or her office if they have had training and been educated about lumineers and how they are applied to your teeth. Should your dentist not be experience in this procedure, he or she can recommend a cosmetic dentist in your area that specializes in the procedure.

Consulting with your regular dentist or the specialist about lumineers is Step 2. During this consultation you can discuss the differences between lumineers and porcelain veneers in order to choose the one that is right for you. You can also discuss the cost of the procedure as well as what your insurance will cover.

Getting lumineers requires two appointments with your dentist or the specialist beyond the consultation. During the first appointment they will take a mold of your teeth that will be sent off to a lab. This will ensure that the lumineers match the shape and size of your teeth perfectly.

During the second appointment the lumineers will be placed on your teeth to see how they fit. While it isn't necessary to file down teeth or shape them, many people find that if this isn't done their lumineers look and feel bulky. Once in your mouth you can determine with your dentist or the specialist whether or not this needs to occur. After you are satisfied with the lumineers they will be cemented in place for you to enjoy.
