How to Make Labels for CDs
Whether you're making your own music, or burning discs of your favorite songs for the road and for the gym, making CD labels proves easy. Using your home computer and printer, you can make a variety of labels, whether you want them to be simple or professional looking in design. 1
Place a single sheet of adhesive label paper face down in your printer's paper feeder. Choose any style of labels you want, such as simple disc- or rectangular shaped labels or contoured labels.
-
2
On your computer, launch a paint, illustration or photo-editing software program. For this step, you may choose from your computer's pre-loaded software or download and install any program you wish to use.
-
3
Start a new task in the image-editing software, making sure it measures out to the size of one of the peel-off labels on the paper sheet.
-
4
Choose a background color, font color, style and size.
-
5
Create your music label by selecting the template and typing in a name for the disc you are creating. Alternatively, you can simply leave the labels blank apart from the color and design you choose to print on them. This provides you with single, blank labels you can write on later with a marker. This proves to be a convenient way to remedy a situation that calls for a quick, handwritten label.
-
6
Choose the "Print" option and open "Print preview" in the template. If you are printing out several blank disc labels, tile the template to print out several of the labels. If you are printing one custom label at a time, arrange the template into one of the square tiles on the template preview.
-
7
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 to complete several custom labels for the same print sheet and template, or skip to Step 8.
-
8
Select the "Print" option on the print preview screen to print out the custom labels on the sheet of adhesive label paper. If you are using an inkjet printer, give the sheet of paper about 10 minutes to completely dry. Wet ink can smudge easily, especially on semi-glossy or glossy types of paper.
