How to Floss With Lumineers

Lumineers are a type of porcelain dental veneer that differ from traditional veneers in that they do not require the teeth to be ground down with a drill; the Lumineers are simply attached to the existing surface of each tooth, making the process far less painful and completely reversible. Although Lumineers protect the surface of the teeth, the gumline and underlying tissue of the teeth are still susceptible to disease and decay. Because of this, teeth that have been covered by Lumineers should be brushed and flossed on a regular basis in the same manner as teeth without veneers.

Pull out approximately 18 inches of floss from the floss container. Wrap the ends of the floss around the middle fingers of each hand, leaving about 2 inches of floss between the fingers. Use your index fingers to hold the floss taut.

    • 2

Guide the floss between two teeth until it reaches the gums. Gently pull the floss to one side so that it wraps slightly around the side of one tooth. Slide the floss up and down against the side of the tooth, making sure to get down as far as possible under the gumline. Repeat in the opposite direction to clean the other tooth.

Remove the floss from between the teeth. Unwrap 1 to 2 inches of clean floss from one of your middle fingers while wrapping the dirty floss around the other. Use the new, clean section of floss to clean between the next two teeth in your mouth. Repeat this process until you have flossed all of your teeth.
