How to Insulate Acrylic Teeth

When a mold is made of acrylic teeth, plaster is used to form the mold. This process of creating a mold from plastic is referred to as "investing." However, plaster will deteriorate the surface of the acrylic teeth, or denture. Insulation will prevent the plaster from making contact with the acrylic teeth. Insulation forms a seal made of silicone around the denture, and is put in place before the investing process begins.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour the insulating material into a mixing bowl. Add between 35 to 40 drops, per manufacturer's instruction, of the supplied catalyst into the mixing bowl.

    • 2

Stir the insulating material and catalyst together with a dental spatula for about 35 seconds, or until it forms a thick consistency.

    • 3

Apply the mixture to the acrylic teeth. Use the dental spatula to spread the mixture across the teeth in a 2 mm, or 0.08-inch even layer.

    • 4

Press the mixture against the teeth with the spatula as it sets. Make sure each tooth is surrounded by the insulation material. Allow it to set on the teeth for 10 minutes, after which you can apply the plaster, if applicable.
