What do you if retain water?

If you are retaining water, there are several things you can do to help reduce it:

* Reduce your sodium intake. Sodium can cause your body to retain water. Aim to consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day.

* Increase your potassium intake. Potassium helps your body to excrete water. Aim to consume at least 4,700 milligrams of potassium per day.

* Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps your body to flush out excess water. Aim to drink eight glasses of water per day.

* Get regular exercise. Exercise helps to improve circulation and can reduce water retention. Aim to get at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.

* Elevate your legs. Elevating your legs helps to improve circulation and can reduce water retention in your feet and ankles. Try to elevate your legs for at least 15 minutes several times per day.

* Wear loose-fitting clothing. Tight-fitting clothing can restrict circulation and contribute to water retention. Try to wear loose-fitting clothing, especially around your waist, legs, and ankles.

* Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Alcohol and caffeine can both contribute to water retention. Try to avoid these beverages, especially if you are already experiencing water retention.

If you are experiencing severe water retention, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
