1
Brush your teeth for three minutes in the morning and at night with a fluoride-based toothpaste. Brush all sides of teeth in both the front and back of the mouth gently. Rinse out your mouth after brushing and rinse the toothbrush well also.

2
Use a tongue scraper twice a day after brushing to remove bacteria from the tongue that can contribute to plaque growth. Place it at the back of your tongue in the center and pull it forward applying light pressure, then do the top edges on each side of your tongue. Discard the scraper if using disposables. Otherwise, rinse it well.

3
Floss your teeth twice daily after tongue scraping. Pull the floss between each tooth and do not press or pull it hard against the gums, as this can lead to bleeding and gum damage.

4
Rinse twice a day with a tartar-fighting disinfectant mouthwash. Take 1 tbsp. of mouthwash in your mouth and swish it around for a full minute, making sure to move the mouthwash around your tongue, teeth and gums. Spit out the mouthwash into the sink.
