1
Check your dental hygiene products for harsh chemicals. Sometimes chemicals in mouthwash and toothpastes can damage the skin on the tongue and cause it to form a coating. Try using a mouthwash without alcohol and a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate, a foaming agent.
-
2
Gently scrape your tongue with a tongue scraper. Doing this regularly can help to decrease the white coating on the tongue and can also help with bad breath.
-
3
Take an acidophilus supplement. A white tongue coating can be a symptom of oral thrush, a yeast infection in the mouth. One way to fight a mild yeast infection is to take acidophilus supplements. Acidophilus can also be found in some yogurts, though you should check the labels to be sure.
-
4
Take grapefruit seed extract. If your white coating is caused by thrush, this also helps to remedy the situation.
-
5
If your coating persists or worsens, talk to your doctor or dentist as it could be a sign of a more severe health problem.
