1
Purchase a bite guard at your local pharmacy. There are bite guards used for sports and for protection from teeth grinding. Choose the bite guard that is right for you.
-
2
Boil one quart of water in a cooking pot for five minutes.
-
3
Place the bite guard in the boiling water for 30 seconds using tongs. The heat softens the bite guard. The soften rubber is easier to mold to your teeth.
-
4
Remove the bite guard. Cool the bite guard in cold water for five seconds. This prevents interior burning of your mouth.
-
5
Place the bite guard under the front teeth. Press the bite guard upwards towards the roof of your mouth. The bite guard should cover halfway up your front teeth.
-
6
Clench your jaw so your front teeth make an impression in the bite guard. Do not let the bite guard touch your gums.
-
7
Let the bite guard set on your teeth for five minutes. A firm impression is needed for maximum protection.
-
8
Rinse the bite guard with warm water to remove saliva.
-
9
Let the bite guard dry for five minutes. The rubber of the bite guard will harden.
