How to Change the Oral B Cross Action Brush Head

Just like a manual toothbrush, electric toothbrushes need their bristles replaced at regular intervals for maximum effectiveness. With use, the bristles begin to fray and cleaning becomes less efficient. Oral-B recommends that you replace the brush head on the CrossAction family of electric toothbrushes at least every three months, and more often if you suffer from gum disease. They also recommend that you replace the brush head after any illness.

Hold the toothbrush in your hand with the bristles facing you. Notice that there is a small hole on the shaft, just below the brush head. This is the release notch.

    • 3

Place the removal tool onto the shaft, with the protrusion on the tool inserted into the release notch. Press the tool against the shaft until the brush head releases. You will hear a click and see a gap between the brush head and the shaft.

Pull the brush head straight off the end of the shaft. Wipe or rinse the inner part of the shaft where toothpaste residue has accumulated.

    • 5

Align the notches on the new head with the grooves on the shaft, and slide the new head onto the shaft until you hear a click. There should be no gap between the brush head and the shaft. Try to pull the new brush head off the shaft to ensure it's locked in place.
