Explain the difference between baby teeth and adult teeth. If you are teaching in a classroom setting, encourage participation by asking them who has all of their adult teeth or who has lost their first baby teeth, depending on the age of the children.

Using a large diagram of a mouth, or using model teeth, show the different kinds of teeth that are in the mouth, such as inscisors, cainines and molars. Write down these words so they can hear it and see the words. They will be more apt to remember them and associate them with the different types of teeth. (Reference 1)

Describe the parts of the tooth. To explain this, use models that separate the parts of the tooth. Label each part of the tooth. Terms that should be included are enamel, root, pulp, gum and dentin.

Teach them about how to take care of their teeth. Educate them on the importance of brushing every day and how to brush properly.

Encourage the children to discuss everything they have just learned. Encourage them to ask questions.
