How to Clean Your Teeth With Household Items

Proper care of the teeth and gums is essential to retain teeth through a lifetime. Proper care includes brushing several times a day, flossing at least once a day, and rinsing with a mouthwash once a day to help eliminate plaque and keep gums healthy. The dental industry has a variety of toothbrushes, toothpastes and other cleaning instruments available. Many of these items can be replaced with items from home such as baking soda and peroxide.

  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Glycerin
  • Peroxide, 3 percent strength

Instructions

      Make toothpaste with equal parts baking soda and salt. Add enough hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Add glycerin instead of peroxide if desired. Peroxide will foam when it is working to eliminate germs.

      Add toothpaste to toothbrush and brush teeth for at least two minutes. Add more toothpaste as desired if necessary. Floss teeth when done brushing.

      Make a mouthwash with equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water. Swish the mixture around in the mouth after brushing and flossing for at least one minute and spit out.
