How to Clean Dentures or Partial Plates

Caring for dentures, also know as dental plates, is important to not only maintain the quality of your dentures but to keep the bone structure of your face in place. Failure to wear dentures can eventually result in the facial bones moving and collapsing. However, you need to take them out at least once a day. Dentures can be a complete set or a partial set; however, regardless of the type, you need to clean and care for your dentures daily.

  Fill a sink with water or place a towel down on the countertop in case your dentures fall out of your hands while handling or removing them. Dentures are expensive and fragile.

  Gently remove the dentures over the sink or a towel. Rinse the dentures with plain water to remove any loose food or debris. Use a denture toothbrush, if possible, and brush the teeth with either a mild soap or a denture cleaner. Do not use toothpaste. Toothpaste is too abrasive for dentures.   Place the dentures into a cup or bin of water and denture solution if you take the dentures out overnight. Replace the solution every night and rinse the dentures in the morning before putting them back in your mouth.
