How to Replace False Teeth

False teeth, also referred to as dentures, are synthetic teeth that replace teeth you have lost or teeth that have become diseased and need to be pulled. Dentures are not designed to last forever. They typically must be replaced every 5 to 7 years to keep them at their best performance. They can help with facial reconstruction and the ability to chew solid foods again. Only your dentist can replace your false teeth.

Instructions

Visit your dentist for a checkup. He will analyze your dentures to see if they require an adjustment. Follow his recommendations for caring for your false teeth. Proper care will extend the life of your dentures.

Check for signs of wear at home. Note any places that pinch or scratch your gums. Mention this to your dentist at your next visit. Note how effective your teeth are. When they begin to wear down they will not work as well. Replace your false teeth at the recommendation of your dentist.

Get fitted for new dentures at your dentist's office. Your dentist will apply a mold to your teeth. The mold will be sent to a dental lab, where custom-fitted dentures will be made.
