How to Fix a Acrylic Denture Liner Yourself
Adjusting to life with dentures can take time. After the initial placement of a denture, sore areas may form along the ridge of your mouth. This does not mean the denture is not fitting correctly, but that the denture needs an adjustment of its acrylic lining. Your gingival tissue is adjusting to the new appliance. This is similar to your feet adjusting to a new pair of shoes. With the right tools, a simple adjustment can save you a trip to the dentist's office.Things You'll Need
- Indelible pencil (preferably purple)
- Dremel tool
- Sharp cutter bur with rounded tip

1
Remove the denture and rinse your mouth out well with water. Rinse the denture thoroughly and let it dry. Set the denture aside.
-
2
Wet the tip of an indelible pencil and gently mark directly onto the sore spot. Be careful as you lift the pencil so as not to smear the mark. Set the pencil aside.
-
3
Insert the denture into your mouth. Do not smear the marking. Allow the denture to sit in your mouth for five seconds and remove the denture. The mark from the indelible pencil will transfer onto the interior acrylic lining of the denture.
-
4
Insert a sharp cutter bur into the dremel tool. With the rounded tip of the bur, slowly grind the acrylic away where the purple mark transferred over until it can no longer be seen.
-
5
Insert the denture into your mouth. Repeat the steps above if needed until you have achieved the proper amount of relief.
